Iron Fist Review

Iron Fist
Iron Fist is not "Spectacular" or what core fans would deem MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) worthy, but it's a decent look into the origin story of one of Marvel's long-buried icons, fleshed out with a new way and with some reasonable changes (e.g the bro-mance between Danny Rand and Luke Cage). After surviving a fatal air plane crash, bar his family (Mom and Dad), Danny Rand, is found by monks from the non-existent place, K'un Lun, raised in the way of the Iron Fist to one day guard the gates against the treacherous threat of The Hand. The origin of Iron Fist the legendary defender of K'un Lun, blessed with the power of Shou-Loa the undying. Iron Fist is a mantle passed on from generation to generation, bestowed onto the only one who can pass the trial, enter Danny Rand, coming back to New York after being  presumable dead for 15 years.

Claire Temple again! Continuing to be the glue these Marvel-Netflix shows have, evidence of how tied together these individuals are, various references to the said individuals that will helm The Defenders TV show in the coming future. There's also some Easter eggs and homage paid to the original character and a subtle tip of the hat to Stan Lee himself. The show holds it own in storytelling, depicting the emotions of Danny Rand, a naive and by-the-book man who is looking for answers to the unexplained death of his parents.

Danny Rand/Finn Jones
I would've never backed Finn Jones to be the lead for Iron Fist, then again Charlie Cox (Daredevil) put critics/doubters to shame, in any case I'm still not convinced about Finn, let's blame it on the unbalanced nature and naiveté of the character his playing + it could be what the directors requested of him. Besides, the fact that Finn Jones was picked ahead of Lewis Tan (who ends up as Zhou Cheng in the same show) rings a bell in what they were looking for in the character; someone without little or not enough charisma and then going to have so much of it eventually. It felt rushed without detailed explanation to some events that occurred, like they wanted to get somewhere quick. The fighting choreography was shittier than Daredevil, The Hand enemies went down way too easy at times especially the ones in The Tournament who were supposedly meant to be difficult to eliminate, but make an excuse seeing as the Iron Fist actually has a para-human ability (and it was just one fist by the way).

It's a good watch for both Marvel and non-Marvel fans and newcomers alike. It's totally not a waste of time as the critics said it was - a hard 7/10.

Game of Thrones; Sansa's Letter to the Blackfish

The eighth episode of the sixth season of Game of Thrones showed us various sides of different people, their drives, their purpose and tested the resolve of most. This is not a review, I don't know too much about Game of Thrones, only what the show has been kind enough to show, especially as book fans tend to piss about the various changes and omissions by the show runners. This is about Sansa-Stark-Lannister-Bolton's letter to her great uncle for help, I was curious to find out what she wrote in the letter and apparently it has been revealed. I don't know if it does much for you but I hope it clears up the curiosity that sprung when he exclaims "she's just like her mother"!

House of Cards Season 4 Review

House of Cards
The fourth season of +Netflix US & Canada's political drama series House of Cards continuing its brilliance and strutting it around like a beautiful peacock in summer. continuous sublime performances by Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright et al. and even newcomer John Kinnaman.

Continuing from its strong ending in season three, the fourth season carries on that strength which is a tear between the Underwoods themselves, which could be a divorce, a separation and possibly the obliteration of whatsoever they've built for over thirty years amidst the election campaign for Frank's 2016 election aspiration, very distracting

The Underwoods get under each others skin, hatching and scheming, planning to decapitate one another despite being attacked by their collective foes (Presidential candidate rivals) during the election campaign, proving dire for their relationship and aspirations alike in every episode. Loyalties are tested, moralities are checked and people who have been wronged have not forgotten.

The Underwoods continue to seem unstoppable and any cracks in their armour continues to be refilled with some form of far-stretched superhero-like healing ability, they simply can't be touched. I understand that they're the protagonists but they get away with things to easily to often (not for long though, the build-up in this season was sick)

Verdict:

Deadpool Review

Deadpool
Deadpool, borne off the self destructive iteraion in the first installation of the Wolverine origin movies and has since transcended into a guideline for risk takers in the current superhero movie trend; Be Epic! Deadpool is a character that was coined from both +Marvel Entertainment 's Spider-Man and +DC Entertainment 's Deathstroke, mashed up together to give a hell; a mouthful and efficient assassin. Deadpool has undergone various iterations over the years, it's most definitive iteration is the one in the recent movie. It is true that Ryan Reynolds took a risk to put on this skin once more, he denounced himself playing any other superhero (After that awful outing as Green Lantern), and might I add, he did so eloquently. Firstly, they got rid of everything that didn't work with the first cinematic Deadpool and escalated what did, hence the origin story and leaving open wide a door in case +Marvel Entertainment / FOX intend to utilise his character again. Deadpool has shut critics up with it's success, doing well domestically and internationally and most especially dethroning "The Matrix Reloaded" as the highest R-rated movie in history with it's $745 Million Box Office success.

Deadpool is about an ex special forces agent, who after finding out he's ill with cancer, signs up to get treated by a special government division which specialize in aiding veterans in such conditions, promising them a new beginning.

As a result of +Marvel Entertainment 's complex deals on IP's with various studios, Deadpool exists in the same universe as the X-Men and its not surprising that there are characters shared across. Deadpool's jokes and puns are fun, easily understood and dirty. The flash back - forward sequences breathe life into a fragile story. However it is a breath of fresh air from the usual superhero shenanigans. Lots of easter eggs and references to Kevin Feige himself, Spider-Man, Green Lantern and even Wolverine.

Its resolve is quite weak with the cliche bad guy kidnap girlfriend/revenge storyline, the unclear depiction of fictional mutant genome (X-genes) and the power levels of the mutants. Sometimes it reared it's head like a low - medium budget movie as the CGI seemed conspicuous.

Verdict
it is unique and utterly refreshing, its a memorable movie 7/10

Daredevil Season 2 Review

Netflix's Daredevil Season 2
Marvel just did again! They've put another handful of sand in DC's food. Taking whatever worked in season 1 and spicing it up to produce a masterpiece.

Content
Daredevil Season 2 continues the story of daytime lawyer, nighttime crime fighting Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil, in his personal vendetta of relieving Hell's Kitchen, New York of crime. This time he goes down a road that questions his very resolve; keeps trying to do right and everything gets undone, questioning his morality; when he comes across The Punisher who's methods are more "effective" and also questioning where his heart truly is;?when he comes across Elektra Natchio, his longtime girlfriend from college. It's a whirlwind for Matthew in every episode trying to balance it all and find peace within himself as well, with his "Guilt."

Pros
To simply put it, it is awesome! Everything about it ticks, in addition, it revels in making references to Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and hints on Iron Fist (Danny Rand). It was an all round hoot from every main character, both old and new, with returning characters reinforcing their previous performances and new characters picking up from the new standard being set.

Cons
Firstly, I didn't see enough of The Punisher, it's a personal observation as I wanted to see more of Jon Bernthal continue in a beautiful performance of The Punisher,
I tend to find the inconsistencies in Matt Murdock's blindness and the specific drop in pace of the opponents whenever they approached Stick

Verdict: It is absolute fun! 8/10

March Madness

Beach yourself for March Madness, not the college sports not bands, am talking about the massive binge watching to come in March via Netflix.

Netflix is going to release both the fourth season of House of Cards on the second season of Daredevil on the 4th of March and the 18th of March respectively. Over the past few weeks, proper marketing with the use of posters and artworks have been every where, I have managed to snag a few, I am pumped and cannot wait to not sleep in order to be the first to finish the complete season before my friends.

I remember a few months back, Netflix proud of their success were vociferous enough to point out that they would like to double the amount of episodes, Better Call Saul just returned and unlike other Netflix Original Series it comes out weekly and not at once so one is yet to note if they have actually been doubled.

So mark your calendars and get prepared to be sucked in, better catch all your sleep now for even after March is the epic return of Game of Thrones.

How I Met Your Mother Re-review (Spoiler Alert)

HIMYM
I did a little rewatching of How I Met Your Mother and trust me it never gets old, there's a lot in it the various graphic lessons from Barney and if not then from Ted( No matter how long it takes, you would meet the one) and the timeless golden jokes in every episode or the iconic opening soundtrack 'Hey Beautiful' by The Solids.

Without doubt How I Met Your Mother is well written and performed by a talented cast but ended on a very low note with a last season that ruined the previous 8, the last season practically threw away every build up that had begun the story development (the way the Mother that was finally found was killed off for Robin...again), character development ( the way Barney goes from a changed and reformed human being back to the heartless whore we all love, but seriously it was awesome for the moment it lasted).

I honestly enjoyed the whole thing again despite its faults or the only at the end. It led me to a singular simple conclusion "No one can really replace FRIENDS in our hearts." There have been a plethora of attempts to recapture the form and dominance of a show with such an influence on different generations, even if How I Met Your Mother had its own style and panache to the sitcom genre, it still takes some notes from FRIENDS, it seems you can pay for school but you can't buy class.

The Verdict: 7/10 - How I Met Your Mother is worth watching or revisiting given that you avoid season 9 at all costs

The list below shows the number of episodes it took to turn a Netflix session to a binge-watching session:

+Bates Motel: 2
+Breaking Bad: 2
+House of Cards: 3
Orange is the New Black: 3
+Better Call Saul AMC: 4
Grace and Frankie: 4

Netflix: The Originals.

A show where actors that helm roles of Netflix Original series come together to talk about the complications of working on a popular series

Wednesday, 10 June 2015

Jon Bernthal is our new Punisher.

Jon Bernthal.
Jon Bernthal will be reprising The Punisher role in the Daredevil series coming to +Netflix in 2016, sorry Tom Hardy, +Marvel Entertainment chose someone else, at least there are three more movies of +Mad Max: Fury Road to get through.

Jon Bernthal has been active, appearing in The Walking Dead, The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury and soon in The Accountant. +Marvel Entertainment are convinced about what he can bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Punisher as well as Daredevil aims to clean up Hell's Kitchen, New York, the only difference is that The Punisher doesn't care how it gets done. Could he be the new villain in Daredevil? Would we see Elektra? What happens to Wilson Fisk (Kingpin)?

The announcement from +Marvel Entertainment came on their website not too long ago and the casting choice is already raising eyebrows.

Sense 8 Review.

Will and Riley.
After binging on his long awaited show, all to be said is how awestruck one will be left after enjoying the view of different cities from the eyes of different people, 8 to exact; San Fransisco, Berlin, Seoul, Mumbai, Nairobi,Reykjavik, Mexico City, London and Chicago, then to martial arts attractions as the Watchowski's are know for (Ninja Assassin and The Matrix) and finally touching various ubiquitous issues from religious diversity, transgender, self- discovery, saving a loved one, arranged marriage, sexually and sexual orientation, prejudice, violence and most importantly, the ever judging and fearful world we live in (people will always fear what they don't understand).

Sense 8.
Those are just the pro's, the cons are; the over confusion, with every attempt to understand what is going on? You get a wee-bit more confused, so it is safe to say that you should just watch and enjoy it (use subtitles if they can help).

My advice? Get off this trailers and get watching already, confusion is the only deficiency you'll experience.

Netflix and the New Ad Service.

Netflix.
+Netflix i greatly appreciated for it non-stop watching capabilities; you get all the episodes at once and binge on them and most especially; no Ads. Sadly, that has come to an end, Ads will be a big part of +Netflix soon. Although +Netflix is claiming that it policy around Ads its unchanged and has no plans to support third party units, people are still nervy about the announcement. Clearly, the announcement didn't come clear to many individuals as the streaming giant hoped.

How;
Ads will probably be digital, or small spots to show what other shows +Netflix has available, and what is yet to come, similar to what HBO does with HBO GO and HBO now as well as other TV Networks like CW, so you can expect to see a spot for +House of Cards whilst watching +Better Call Saul AMC . It is proven that digital Ads aren't that effective anyway.

Why
As +Netflix is growing it wont be a bad idea if one or two of their shows enjoy a few more views, considering their trigger-happy release of episodes for every of their original content, of which they deserve credit for this brave move. After all they don't get as much "hoorah" as TV Networks.

However, who is to say it isn't one of their numerous tests they carry out now and then and may never see light.
